About Mise ÉireSite and group owner Patrick Lawlor met Brian Kelly through the Linkedin networking site at the end of 2008. In February 2009 they formed the Mise Éire networking group. The international appeal of the group has ensured that the blogs and group discussions are varied. Our members come from all over the world. Membership of the group is open to anyone and all can partake of the regular blogs that feature on the groups Linkedin page. Check out our blogs page for a flavour of the topics we discuss. The group is also home to the infamous Kennedys online Irish pub which since February has attracted more than 11000 posts. We also have the Mise Éire Jukebox where members can post and listen to their favourite music. See our Mise Jukebox page for a sample of the great music we provide. The Group title is from the poem Mise Eire written by Patrick Pearse, the Irish revelutionary executed by the British for his part in the Easter rising in 1916. Mise éire, sine mé ná chailleach bhéarra. Mór mo ghlóir, mé rug Cú Chulainn cróga. Mór mo náire, mo chlann féin a dhíol a máthair. Mór mo phian, bithnaimhde do mo shíorchiapadh. Mór mo bhrón, d'éag an dream inar chuireas as dóchas. Mise éire uaigní mé ná an chailleach bhéarra. Pádraic Mac Piarais 1879-1916 To hear the poem in the song Four Green Fields Click here. English Translation: I am Ireland, I am older than the old woman of Beare. Great is my glory, I who gave birth to Cuchulainn the brave. Great is my shame, my own children have sold their mother. I am Ireland I am lonelier than the old woman of Beare. |
